  • Abbie is honored to serve our amazing single moms as the Program Director for Peacock. She grew-up not too far from Bryan, in Rockdale. After graduating high school, God took her on an interesting journey that included a bachelors at Baylor University in education, a masters at Vanderbilt University in curriculum design and leadership. From there she became a middle school teacher and leader in Tennessee and Texas. Then the most unexpected thing happened…she became a missionary in Ukraine. From 2013-2024, she founded and directed a ministry that is still going strong today. She is thrilled and humbled to now be serving the beautiful single moms here at Peacock. May God be glorified and the lives of these families be transformed through His truth and love.

  • Derrick is honored to serve as Development Director for Peacock Legacy of Hope. Originally from Texas, God has faithfully guided him through more than fifteen years of pastoral ministry, worship leadership, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement. Along the way, he has been blessed to serve churches in both Texas and North Carolina, building meaningful relationships, leading volunteers, and helping people experience the hope of Christ through compassionate ministry.

    Today, he also serves in Pastoral Care Ministry at First Baptist Bryan while pursuing a Master of Divinity at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary. Derrick is passionate about inviting churches, community partners, volunteers, and donors to join God’s work of restoring hope to single mothers and their families. He believes that when people respond to God’s call with generosity, compassion, and love, lives can be transformed through the power of Christ for generations to come.

    Derrick is humbled and grateful to be part of the incredible ministry of Peacock Legacy of Hope and looks forward to seeing how God continues to write stories of hope throughout the Brazos Valley.

  • Bill Allen has been a resident of Bryan and College Station since 2000 and a member of First Baptist Bryan since 2018, when he and his wife Andrea joined. He was originally part of the Men's Ministry there when the foundation for Peacock was laid and has been involved at various levels ever since. Bill truly enjoys what he does for Peacock and its residents.

Board of Directors

  • Donnie Pockrus is the President and CEO of Lockhart Homes. Donnie enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son and managing the home-building business with care. He grew up in Flower Mound Texas. After attending high school, he went on to attend college at Texas A&M University. He majored in Industrial Engineering. After graduation, he took a job in commercial construction which later led him to open his own home building business. He previously served as president of the Greater Brazos Valley Builders Association. In 2022 he was named builder of the year. Donnie continues to be a board member of the Greater Brazos Valley Builders Association. He has a passion for helping the community and being involved in building projects that serve others.

  • Karen Allen grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, in a Southern Baptist home and trusted Jesus at age nine. She earned her degree from Ottawa University in Kansas and worked in industrial sales in Dallas before moving to Houston, Texas. She loves to say she married her Sunday School teacher because Joe Allen was teaching the class she attended at Second Baptist Houston.

    Joe’s career required multiple moves to new cities and states. Having lived in Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Connecticut, they always found a Bible believing church to attend and raise their growing family. She transitioned from a full-time career wife to a stay-at-home mom. She used her extra time for various ministries. She has been an active member of her church, serving in women’s ministries, Bible study leader, Vacation Bible School Director, Children’s Leader, Regional Director and played a key role in launching a Teen Community Bible Study. She and Joe also helped begin small groups at Wheaton College Church.

    They lived in Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Connecticut, always finding a Bible-believing church for their family.

    Professionally, Karen served in education and admissions for 20 years, viewing each role as a ministry opportunity. She retired in 2024 after working with military families at Texas A&M University in College Station.

    In 2012 she and Joe moved to the Bryan/College Station area and became members of First Baptist Bryan, where she has served on numerous committees, and supported Joe as Director of the Closer Walk class for 11 years. She is also a co-founder of the Military Family Engagement Ministry. She has been a board member and fund-raising chair of Brazos Valley Cares, a non-profit that benefits military families. Karen also served as president of the Austin Texas A&M University Mothers club and a board member of the Texas A&M University Mothers club Federation.

    Karen and Joe have three grown children with wonderful spouses. Kaitlin and Josh Erkkila, Taylor and John Mansfield and Clayton and Jenna Allen who have blessed them with nine grandchildren.

    Karen and Joe currently serve as In reach directors for the singles ministry. She sees how important support from the Christian community is for single parents and believes in the power of education to transform lives. She continues to pray for the lasting impact of Peacock Legacy of Hope in the Bryan-College Station area and beyond.

  • Cindi was born in Taylor, Texas to Carolyn and Charles Jackson. After graduating from Taylor, High School, and Southwest Texas State University, her dream of becoming a mom and teacher came true with the arrival of Shawna, Stacie and Shane and with a 31 year career teaching Kindergarten. Adding to her blessing list are grandchildren Callie, Audrey, Chance, Jackson, Slaton, Vivian and “in-loves” Kyle, Kevin, Sarah and Joey. Cindi is “off the chart”excited that she will become a great grandmother in September! Cindi was named Outstanding Texas Chapter Advisor of the Year for Alpha Delta sorority, Who’s Who in Outstanding Teachers in America, Teacher of the Year at Bonham and Navarro Elementary schools in Bryan ISD, and was an officer in the Brazos county A&M Mother’s Club. She was named one of the 2022 You’re The TOPS honorees for the Prenatal Clinic in Bryan. Currently, she is a member of FBC, Bryan, where she serves as a greeter and is an outreach leader for her group life (SS) class. She is a volunteer at SOS ministries, a MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) mentor and is a member of ROSC(Recovery Oriented Systems of Care). Cindi is beyond honored to serve as a PLH (Peacock Legacy of Hope) board member and as an M&M (Moms in Ministry). As an M&M she has the joy of walking along side a single mom in the Peacock program. Cindi recently wrote a book titled Joy in the journey. She feels this was a “God assignment” to share her story in hopes of helping others who are walking through addiction with a family member. She’s also part of a group trying to bring a Sobering Center to Brazos County. Her bucket list includes a third mission trip to Africa, and continuing to love on single moms as God writes their stories.

  • A native Texan, Janet Karr has spent over 50 years in the title insurance and real estate industry where she also volunteered and served as chairman or member of various committees with the Texas Land Title Association. She has been active in numerous volunteer organizations and is a former board member of Casa el Buen Samaritano, a free medical clinic serving the Houston area.

    Janet is married to Aubrey Karr and spent most of her life in the Houston area. She has been an active member of her church in Houston, serving in women’s ministries, finance committee, praise and worship team, Pastor’s executive counsel and Prayer Minister. In 2019 she and Aubrey moved to the Brazos Valley area and became members of First Baptist Bryan, where she has served on numerous committees, and is currently serving on the Prayer Team.

    Janet and Aubrey have 3 grown daughters who have blessed them with 6 grandchildren. One of their daughters is a single mom which is why Peacock is especially close to their hearts. She is looking forward to coming along side these precious women and lending her expertise in whatever way God chooses to use her. Her encouragement for single moms comes from Proverbs: “Laugh without fear of the future….” because Jesus is your rock and your fortress.

  • Carla Adamson grew up in Wylie, Texas outside of Dallas. She attended Richland Junior College, and it was during this time that she met her future husband, Kelley.

    Kelley returned to College Station for a job opportunity. Shortly thereafter, Carla transferred to Texas A&M University where she graduated in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in business, specializing in real estate and entrepreneurship. While in college and for a short time afterwards, Carla worked in the beauty/cosmetic industry. She then worked with a commercial real estate investment firm where she managed property and maintenance for both residential and commercial properties. She felt the pull of wanting to be home with her young children, so she was a stay-at-home mom for several years. In 2002, Kelley and Carla started Adamson Engineering, LLC and eventually other spin-off businesses where Carla has focused much of her time.

    Carla and Kelley worship at A&M Church of Christ. Carla is a volunteer in pastoral care, the shower ministry and providing Sunday breakfasts in the Aggies for Christ ministry.

    Throughout the years, Carla has been involved in other not-for-profit organizations such as the March of Dimes, Junior League of Bryan-College Station, Inc, an addiction recovery organization, as well as different parent/team support groups while raising their daughters.

    Together, Kelley and Carla are involved with Ciudad de Angeles, a children’s home in Cozumel. During their annual mission trip, Carla spends time with the house moms while teaching/working with them on embroidery projects as well as other work projects for the campus. They are also child sponsors of Marcos (who is now grown) and Antonio.

    Carla and Kelley have two daughters, Adrienne and Brynne. Adrienne and her husband, Alex, live in Cedar Park, Texas with their two sons. Brynne and her husband, Cody, live in Camp Pendleton, California where he is a US Marine.

    In her spare time, Carla enjoys travelling with Kelley and their friends. She also enjoys quilting and various types of sewing projects, and spending time with her grandsons.

    Carla is thankful for the opportunity to serve Peacock Legacy of Hope. She hopes that she can be a blessing to the moms and their children.

  • Mike Ballard is the Pastor of Ministries at First Baptist Church Bryan. He attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree. He later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Masters in Divinity. Mike has been in ministry for over 40 years, the first 25 years of which he served as a Children’s Pastor in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area at two large churches. During those years he watched and ministered to many children who came from single parent homes. The last ten years, God has placed on his heart the need to raise up housing for mothers who have been abandoned by their husbands. Mike is thankful to the Lord for providing property and housing to bless single moms. He also wants to thank the members at First Baptist Church of Bryan for believing in Peacock Legacy of Hope and providing the funds to help start Peacock.

  • William Taylor grew up in Cayce, South Carolina. He became a Christian at Georgia Southern College at age 20 while reading a Gospel Tract all alone in his dorm room on February 8, 1975. Upon this decision he told his parents he had become a Christian and entered Columbia Bible College that fall. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Education in 1978, he pursued a Master of Divinity Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has the unique experience of working in three types of christian organizations, serving with nonprofits like the International Evangelism Association and the World Discipleship Development Foundation. Also he served in an academic setting at Southwest Baptist University and a mega church with Houston's First Baptist Church for 22 years as Executive Team Member and Missions Pastor. He and his wife moved to College Station in 2020 starting a mentoring ministry called TagHouse. TAG stood for Training Another Generation. January 1, 2023 he became the Missions & Connection Pastor at First Baptist Church Bryan. William has been married to Nancy Randolph, Aggie Class of 79' for 43 years. They have two children and four grandchildren.
